The spirit of Rhodes

In common with elsewhere in Greece, the history of Rhodes is interwoven with mythology. It is said The Sun God Helios chose Rhodes as his bride and bestowed upon her light, warmth and vegetation. Their son had three sons, Camiros, Ialysos and Lindos – who each founded the cities that were named after them.

Brimming with stunning scenery from the lush mountains at its heart to the sandy coves on each side of the Island, you will find time-honoured villages set amongst the olive groves and vineyards. Buy freshly picked oranges and lemons from the local farmers on the roadside; taste the famed homemade honey alongside Sumo known locally as ‘mountain water’ ! Sample just some of the glorious elements that make up this surprising Island.

The Old Town is the heart of Rhodes Town itself and is the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe. The impressive walled ‘city’ is divided into three sectors, The Knights quarter, the Hora (often known as the Turkish quarter) and the Jewish quarter. The Hora is considered to be the commercial sector and contains most of the shops and restaurants.

For new visitors
there is so much to see and explore in the Old Town and you will surely be torn between spending time here and the desire to investigate the rest of the Island.
